Travel Information and Assistance

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is conveniently located in the northeastern United States of America.  Whether traveling by air, car, or train, getting to Pittsburgh is convenient and economical.

If you are traveling by car or train, Pittsburgh is accessible from many major U.S. cities within a 6-hour timeframe.

If you are traveling by air, please plan your travel into Pittsburgh International Airport.  It is located about 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and surrounding hotels.  There are approximately 190 non-stop flights per day between 49 destinations.  Non-stop service between Pittsburgh and Paris, France has recently been added, creating easy access for participants traveling from international destinations.  The following airlines, along with their international partner carriers, provide service to Pittsburgh:

Please check with your local travel agency or preferred airline to determine the most efficient route for you to reach Pittsburgh. 

If you are traveling internationally, you should reconfirm your flights within 72-hours of departure.

Airport Transfers in Pittsburgh

Travel time between downtown and the Pittsburgh International Airport is about 30 minutes, but could be longer depending upon traffic. The following options are available for airport transfers.

  • A taxi will cost approximately US$40 each way.  Taxis are readily accessible from the lower level of the airport (outside of baggage claim.)

     

  • SuperShuttle provides van service for approximately $20 each way. Note that the cost may be lower for shared service to the same or multiple destinations. Reservations are not required, but if preferred, they can be made through the following Web site: http://www.supershuttle.com/. If calling from within the United States, you can also reach Super Shuttle by telephone at 1-800-258-3826. 

     

  • Car rentals are relatively inexpensive in Pittsburgh and more than 1,500 color-coded signs point the way to highways and attractions, making it easy to drive to and around town. Please be mindful that if you choose to rent a car, you may incur additional expenses for parking at the convention center, hotel, or otherwise.

Getting Around Pittsburgh

Downtown Pittsburgh is a very walkable area. Most hotels are within a short walk of the convention center, restaurants, as well as shopping and entertainment.  A variety of coffee shops, restaurants, and eateries surround the convention center, with varying price ranges and diverse cuisines. Most are within a 10-minute walk.

Taxi service is widely available throughout the downtown and surrounding areas. The cost will vary.

It is safe to get a taxi from the convention center, hotels, restaurants, as well as shopping and entertainment venues.  Taxis are often readily accessible from these locations.  If not, the venue may be willing to call a taxi for you. 

Please note that taxi drivers typically do NOT wait unless they charge a substantial fee. You should confirm this arrangement and the cost prior to requesting a taxi driver to wait for you.  As an alternative, many drivers may be willing to come back to get you at a specified time and location for an additional cost.

The Port of Authority of Allegheny County operates a 25 mile subway and light rail system throughout downtown Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
